Getting rid of smells in carpet and rugs

Sometimes carpets and rugs can absolutely stink, and you can use all the carpet freshners in the world, and the smell will still linger under the smell of the artificial scent. Doggy smells can be particularly difficult to get rid of. In this the day and age of allergies, there is a chance you can't always use chemical alternatives either. They can make your pets and children sick.

So what is a really effective, cheap way to get rid of the smell in your carpet and rugs. And particularly great no chemicals?

BAKING SODA!!!
Baking soda is a great cleaning tool, but it also has the added advantage of absorbing smells. So, what should you do?

1. Get your pack of baking soda and sprinkle it over your rug or carpet. Don't be mean with it, and brush it in.
2. I would leave it overnight to absorb the smells, but at the VERY least, leave it for at least 2 hours, but I have found that overnight tends to work best.
3. Then all you need to do is get your vacuum cleaner and vacuum your carpet or rug.

That is the simplest, cheapest and most effective way to get smells out of your carpet or rug. However I do have to add, it also works great your mattress. If you have a child who occasionally wets the bed it will work here too. Once you've cleaned the wet patch, let it dry and sprinkle quiet a generous amount of baking soda over the offending part, and then sprinkle it over the rest of the mattress. Leave it for as long as possible to absorb the pee pee smell and then vacuum.

There you have it, baking soda, they great cost effective alternative to chemical freshners!
