How To repair scratches in hardwood flooring - A quick fix
71Getting rid of scratches
There are a few ways to get scratches out of hard wood floors. The majority involve professionals and high costs.
One simple easy way, that should work is by making a mixture of olive oil and vinegar. One part of each.
Shake the mixture vigorously, and pour a small amount of the mixture on the scratch, and rub lightly into the wood. Leave it to rest for 12-24 hours, then rub off. Keep on doing this until the scrath lessens, and eventually disappears.
This is an old fashioned remedy used in many parts of Europe for years and should do the trick. The mixture will also bring out the natural shine and grain in all wood types.

I was a doubter but i have done a few test areas and it definitely masks the scratch well. We have dark oak floors with a polyurethane coating.
I'm not so experienced about it, but my friend face this problem a few moths ago, and I suggest this method to him, and he applies and gets the very good results.
First of all, you have to examine the scratch type. Is it a minor scratch or major scratch? you can examine it with your naked eyes.
If the scratch is minor then you can remove it with this method.
1. Use a sandpaper and start sanding the spot. Does it carefully do not scratch the area around the spot?
2. Use a brush or sponge to apply the same coating.
3. Again use a brush for paint or varnish to go with the color of floor with spot area and buff it with soft cotton clothe after few minutes.First of all, you have to examine the scratch type. Is it a minor scratch or major scratch? you can examine it with your naked eyes.

balsamic for dark floors! brilliant repair! im not crying anymore
On the same day that my solid oak flooring was laid, I moved a chair and scratched it. Great!!. This tip is genius, you can hardly notice the scratch.
Works
I tried it and found that after the mix dried the deep and wide scratches still showed up, but now they're darker.
IT does work great with light scratches but IMPORTANT! make sure you thoroughly clean the surface prior to applying mix
small scratches gone- deeper scratches now dark brown.
also -White or brown vinegar or doesn't it matter??
ONLY USE THIS METHOD ON REGULAR MEDIUM TO DARK COLORED HARDWOOD! I used this on our light colored wood (our floor has many tones to it) and it made the scratch darker!
It workd

We just had our white oak floors refinished with polyurethane and they came out gorgeous. It's been a month now and having an 80 pound golden retriever I noticed some sizable minor scratches and found this quick fix. I had no olive oil or vinegar so i tried straight vegetable oil. Worked great!! Obviously the scratches are still there but they are far less noticable. I really have to look for them now. I dont know if they will reappear after a few days but I'm quite happy for now. Thanx for the tip :)
